The source of many myths, legends, and lore is Chayesh. Some will even go so far as to say he does not exist, though these religious views are the extreme. Chayesh first appeared in Aabahran after the mysterious disappearance of all of the ancient pantheon (with the exception of Irumeru). As Irumeru channeled all the power of the former Gods into a chain to keep Aabahran from slipping into the Rift, Chayesh appeared with Caimor and Malchaeius following close behind. From what has been gathered from snippets of scrolls written during that time, it seems they came from a planet not unlike Aabahran, but much older and more unstable. So unstable was their planet in fact, that upon the destruction of their God of Light, Juvan, their wartorn and beleaguered world began to crumble. [It would be important to interject here that it is still unknown if it was Chayesh himself who destroyed Juvan, though his worshippers would confirm such as fact in evidence of Chayesh's virtually unlimited power.] Seeking a restored balance, the beacon of Irumeru's chain drew the trio to Aabahran with their crumbling planet in tow. After several battles and much debate, the trio of Chayesh, Caimor, and Malchaeius forged a balance by lending their powers over Death, Order, and Chaos to Irumeru's control of the power of Life. With the balance renewed, Aabahran stablized and the former planet of Chayesh crumbled into flaming shards across the sky. As with his history, so too is Chayesh's appearance the source of much speculation. Some say he is hideous, a sight so frightful that one gaze would freeze the blood of Saint Andres himself. Others say he is nothing but spirit, a mist that moves freely from place to place without hinderance of time and space. Still others say he most commonly appears as a simple traveller, joining an unfortunate party of adventurers before mysterious dangers befall them. Unbeknownst to such hapless heroes, Death himself walks among them. As Lord and Master over the Realm of Death and the Pillar of Souls, Chayesh rules his domain ruthlessly. Often described as mercilessly cruel or deviously clever, he imparts special powers to those who call themselves his "chosen", the legions of the Undead and their generals, the Vampires. As one might expect, due to the nature of their business, Chayesh takes some personal interest in the affairs of the Syndicate, as he often conspires with Khaede to affect some plan of Chayesh's creation upon the mortal realm.
