In one of the many great libraries of Aabahran, in one of the many dark and seldom visited areas, sits a small, unassuming journal bound in red leather. There is no title on the outside to hint at its contents. Yellowed pages are covered with a flowing, bold text that recounts the story of a powerful dark knight and his adventures with a rogue called Khaede. The last entry, curiously in the middle of the book, reads: "I grow tired of my traveling companion, but my brilliant plan is about to come to fruition. We have traveled far, and finally stand in front of the gate to Xuthvaroth, to the One Crown of Aabahran and the power that it will grant its wearer. True, his help in this mission has been invaluable…he is the most skilled thief I have ever come across, dispatching both obstacles and foes with precision and stealth. If I was feeling particularly humble, I might even say that his finishing touch on the plan to steal the crown was pivotal to the success of this whole mad scheme. Still, his demeanor is infuriating to me; he seems to constantly quietly brood, saying all of 5 words to me in a moon cycle…I am never sure what he is thinking, and that is dangerous. However, I am sure that he is completely unaware of my treacherous intent that will leave him bloodied and dead, and the crown for me. What a naïve fool. I will enjoy sliding my sword into his back; perhaps immediately after this meal. Gah, this meal. That is what I will truly be thankful for, the loss of his cooking…it always tastes of bitter almonds, although this one more than any of the rest…
The writing trails off, almost as if the pen fell from the hand of the writer.
From what you can glean, Khaede seems to be the embodiment of silent greed, a killer and a being of great ambition.
